Insight is partnering with Women Who Code to encourage and support women entering the fields of data engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, DevOps engineering, decentralized consensus, and security. We will be granting $1000 scholarships for up to five Women Who Code members that are accepted into the Insight Fellows programs. This is the first step in our partnership and we look forward to joining WWCode to continue helping women excel in the tech industry.

At Insight, our mission is to help women and men transition into careers in data and tech. These fields are at the forefront of the tech industry, and drive progress in advanced topics like deep learning, distributed systems, product analytics, and next-generation genome sequencing. While the demand for engineers and scientists who can work with data has been rapidly growing, there is a severe shortage of candidates that have used the specific tools and best practices of the industry.

Quite often, this lack of direct experience is a barrier to individuals, even if they have the background and potential to excel in the field of data.

Insight addresses this mismatch by helping those with the fundamental skills learn the technologies and methods used at leading companies. Insight provides a collaborative space for our Fellows to do impactful work on real-world challenges. They learn by building the same data products and platforms that drive businesses. We guide our Fellows by connecting them with industry leaders and providing mentorship from a network of over 3000 alumni that have transitioned to careers in data since 2012.

At the same time, Women Who Code (WWCode) has emerged as one of the pre-eminent organizations inspiring women to excel in technology careers. Since 2011, WWCode has created a network of over 100,000 members in 20 countries, with the mission of supporting a generation of leaders and role models in the tech industry. They’ve organized over 3000 free events that help women gain the technical skills needed to advance their careers.

We fully support the important efforts of Women Who Code, and understand the value of a more diverse tech industry. Many argue that teams with more women are more successful; research on mixed-gender teams supports these conclusions, and we’ve seen our alumna thrive in technical roles at top companies like Netflix, Facebook, LinkedIn, Airbnb, NY Times, Seven Bridges Genomics, and Capital One. We’re proud to have helped our Fellows transition into advanced sectors of the tech industry (including many WWCode members), but we want to do more.
